MEMBERS’ EXHIBITION TO BE FEATURED AT ARTS WALK

The Arts Alliance of Woodbury will host its last Arts Walk of the season from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 18, along Main Street South between Studio Hill Gallery and the Woodbury Public Library.

The event coincides with AAW’s annual Members’ Exhibition, on view through August 30 in the library gallery.

“This is probably our largest and quite possibly the strongest show of our members’ work so far,” said AAW board member and exhibition chair Michael Gallagher. “We are proud of how the show is presenting new members alongside of long-standing contributors.”

A capacity crowd attended the show’s opening reception on August 9 when juror Keffie Feldman of the Mattatuck Museum named winners in five categories.

Ron Crowcroft won in Works on Paper for his piece, “Tideline,” Sharron Famiglietti’s ceramic “Greenman” won in Sculpture, Michael Peter Gallagher’s large-scale “Girl on the Half-Shell” was named best in Photography and Michael F. LaChioma’s “Summer Burst” won in Painting. “The New Aurora Borealis,” a multi-media work by Matt Wood, was honored as Juror’s Choice.

“The show is stunning,” said Mr. Gallagher. “It’s grand to see how our exhibition has grown and strengthened over the recent years.”

Many of the show’s 33 exhibitors will be on hand for Thursday evening’s Arts Walk, which will also feature music, dance, pop-up artists, spoken word and more.

The library lawn will be the venue for a 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. performance by Brass City Ballet. A drum circle will gather there from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m., followed by a bell choir from 7:15 p.m. to close.

Members of the Pomperaug Valley Garden Club will host an exhibit on the endangered Monarch butterfly.

The Old Schoolhouse on Main Street South will be open for tours from 5 to 8 p.m., hosted by Docent Carol Sidelli of the Old Woodbury Historical Society.

Also on hand will be representatives from the Arts Alliance, Community Theater at Woodbury and the Glebe House and Gertrude Jekyll Garden.

A number of artists and craftsmen will exhibit on the Cannon Green. Nearby, the front porch of Madeline West Antiques will provide the stage for the Dr. Steve Band from 5:15 to 6 p.m., folksinger Mike Carbonneau from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. and Erik von Koniger from 7:15 p.m. to close.

The walk’s southern anchor, Studio Hill Gallery, 507 Main St. South, will showcase its new exhibit, “Faces and Places.” The gallery’s back patio will be the spot for spoken word performances by Woodbury Poet Laureate Sandy Carlson, MayaRose Spoken Word, Roxbury musician and poet Elizabeth Kutepov, Norwalk Poet Laureate Bill Hayden and  Woodbury poet and artist Ron Crowcroft.

There is no cost for guests or exhibitors at the AAW Arts Walk.

The all-volunteer, nonprofit Arts Alliance of Woodbury is committed to supporting and promoting the arts in Woodbury and surrounding towns. New members are welcome.
